![]() You have three options (there’s a Stone that allows up to 4) and every round you can only choose one but they last until your tower run is over. They can increase your health, strength, charge speed for charge attacks, increase damage against boss battles, extend match time, etc. These are randomly generated collectibles you gain after every floor you pass. That would have helped preserve more of the fun while playing.īut there’s one reason I keep coming back to play Story Mode: “Stones” – power-ups, basically (there’s Stickers, Badges, Rings, and more also, but we’ll call them all Stones for now). I didn’t have any friends locally to play with but two of our editors, Elisha and Sean, also have the game and I wish there was online with Story Mode so I had the chance to play the game with them. The longer you play, the more rote combat feels. It shows that Smash’s inclusion of one more attack button makes a big difference, even though Kirby Fighters 2 could have more variety if Hal Labs included more midair attacks.įull track list revealed for EA Sports UFC 5, available now to stream But you use a lot of forward B or neutral B attacks, so you end up dancing around the stages using some variety of those inputs and that ends up desensitizing your amusement. You fight other Kirbies floor by floor and take on occasional bosses (Twin Whispy Woods say “hello”). In Story Mode, your goal is to reach the top of a tower – Mortal Kombat style. The varied number of Kirby’s give a lot of reason to come back and try things but because their movesets are so limited, you’re likely to find one Kirby you like and stick with that one. But each Kirby executes different styles of attacks depending on which you choose. Each utilizes similar Super Smash Bros., commands with the exception of the B button as the only attack button. You’ll see Water Kirby, Parasol Kirby, Beam Kirby, Staff Kirby, Bell Kirby, Archer Kirby, and on and on. Most of them are various Kirby abilities from different Kirby games. There are 22 available Kirbies to choose from, including ones you unlock. But despite all the rudimentary design within Kirby Fighters 2, Story Mode carried all the fun and made playing worth my time. What little modes Kirby Fighters 2 does have feel trivial time-killers rather than ways to spend time enjoying this fighter. Fighting in this Kirby brawler is so basic it makes Super Smash Bros. ![]() How quickly you move through everything to get to the fighting exemplifies how basic and uninteresting Kirby Fighters 2 is. Choose a game mode, boom! Character selection screen. Boot up Kirby Fighters 2 and boom! Title screen.
